Ocean Spray Investigates Viral Videos Showing Cans of Water Instead of Cranberry Sauce

Ocean Spray is investigating social media reports that several cans labeled as jellied cranberry sauce contained clear liquid instead of sauce over Thanksgiving weekend. The company says it is "aware of a few reports," has contacted those who posted videos and is looking into how a packaging or production error might have occurred. A TikTok clip with more than 10 million views and additional posts on Facebook and X fueled the concern. Separately, a viral video showed mislabeled cans of green beans containing beets, highlighting broader holiday packaging mishaps.

Ocean Spray is investigating multiple social media reports that cans labeled as jellied cranberry sauce contained clear liquid instead of the expected product during the Thanksgiving holiday weekend.

The company told reporters it is "aware of a few reports about cans containing water instead of cranberry sauce, and we’re looking into how this may have happened." Ocean Spray added that while "millions of families enjoyed their cranberry sauce this holiday season, even one can of sauce not meeting expectations matters to us," and that it has reached out to people who posted the clips to "learn more and make it right."

Ocean Spray: "We’re aware of a few reports about cans containing water instead of cranberry sauce, and we’re looking into how this may have happened. We’ve reached out to the folks who shared these videos to learn more and make it right."

One TikTok clip that went viral has more than 10 million views and shows a user opening several Ocean Spray cans she says were filled with clear liquid. The video’s caption read, "My best friend opened up cans of water instead of cranberry sauce 🤣🤣 @OceanSprayInc what is going on???" Other users posted similar footage on Facebook and X (formerly Twitter), with at least one person saying multiple cans from the same package contained only clear liquid.

In replies on X, Ocean Spray said it was sorry to hear about the reports and provided contact information so affected shoppers could get help from the company’s customer service team. The company’s review of the claims is ongoing as it investigates whether a production or packaging error occurred.

Packaging errors drew additional attention over the holiday weekend when a separate viral video showed cans labeled as Del Monte green beans that contained beets. That clip also circulated widely and added to consumer concerns about canning and labeling mishaps during peak shopping periods.

If you believe you received a product that is not as labeled, consider saving the packaging and any lot or UPC codes and contacting the brand’s customer support so they can investigate. Ocean Spray has said it is working directly with people who shared the videos to resolve individual concerns.
