"I don't think it's a good thing for 22 million Americans to suddenly have to pay double or more for their health insurance," Kiley said, warning of a potential "huge cost shock."

Kiley described the proposal as a practical compromise intended to draw support from both Democrats and Republicans. He stressed that any short-term extension should be paired with targeted cost-control reforms so the measure remains fiscally responsible.
