14-Year-Old Joshua Travis Killed by Train in Nottinghamshire — Community Pays Tribute

A 14-year-old boy, identified by police as Joshua Travis, died after being struck by a train at a level crossing in Nottinghamshire on the evening of Wednesday, Nov. 26.

Officers from the British Transport Police (BTP) responded to reports of a "casualty on the tracks" just after 7 p.m. Paramedics attended, but Joshua was pronounced dead at the scene. The BTP has said the incident is not currently being treated as suspicious.

Joshua had been a goalkeeper in the Nottingham Forest Academy. Both the professional club and his local side, Burton Joyce FC, issued tributes and expressed their condolences to the family. Burton Joyce FC said the Travis family had been a close part of the club for many years and announced a moment of silence at upcoming weekend fixtures to honour his memory.

Friends and members of the local community visited the crossing in the days after the incident to lay flowers and pay their respects. Network Rail requested an emergency closure of the crossing where the incident occurred to allow for investigation and safety checks.

The Rail Accident Investigation Branch (RAIB) has said it will review evidence and decide next steps once investigators have completed initial evidence gathering. The police have asked anyone with information or dash-cam footage from the area around the time of the incident to come forward to assist the inquiry.

The community continues to mourn Joshua, whose family remembered him for his warmth and lively spirit.
