Two Employees Killed, One Wounded in Manassas Workplace Shooting; Suspect Dies by Suicide

An employee opened fire at a United Rentals facility in Manassas, Virginia, killing two coworkers and wounding a third before dying by an apparent self-inflicted gunshot. The victims were identified as Ricky Lamot, 48, and Christopher Serrano, 33; the third victim is expected to survive. Police identified the shooter as 37-year-old Marvin Grant, who fled, led officers on a chase on I-81 in Augusta County, and died at the roadside. Investigators have not yet determined a motive and the investigation is ongoing.

An employee allegedly opened fire at a United Rentals facility in Manassas, Virginia, Wednesday morning, killing two coworkers and wounding a third before dying from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, authorities said.

The shooting took place at the United Rentals location in Manassas, about 30 miles outside Washington, D.C., according to Manassas Police and local reports. Police identified the suspect as 37-year-old Marvin Grant of Charlotte, North Carolina.

What Happened

Manassas Police Chief Douglas Keen said there was "some kind of altercation" at the workplace before Grant drew a pistol and shot three colleagues. Chief Keen said investigators have not determined a motive, but that the suspect allegedly said, "three people are going to die."

"The man was dedicated to coaching youth football... knowing his children are now fatherless, it hits home," Chief Keen said after identifying one victim he knew personally.

Victims and Aftermath

Police identified the two slain employees as Ricky Lamot, 48, and Christopher Serrano, 33. A third victim, whose name has not been released, was wounded and taken to a hospital; officials say he is in stable condition and expected to survive.

Pursuit and Suspect's Death

After the shooting, Grant fled the scene. Virginia State Police said he was later seen driving on Interstate 81 in Augusta County. Troopers attempted a traffic stop; Grant led officers on a chase and then pulled over. He exited the vehicle, produced a gun and later died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound despite the presence of a tactical team and negotiator at the scene.

Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances and motive. Local officials have expressed condolences to the victims' families and said more information will be released as it becomes available.
