Elizabeth Holmes will remain in federal custody but enter a supervised reentry program when she transfers from a minimum-security federal prison camp to a halfway house in Texas on Aug. 23, 2027.

Records from the Department of Justice's Victim Notification System obtained by ABC News indicate Holmes is expected to be placed at the Austin Transitional Center in Del Valle, Texas. The move coincides with renewed public interest in her case following the release of a new documentary, You Can See Everything, directed by Nathan Fielder and Lance Oppenheim.

Documentary Attention
The film, reportedly shot largely in secret, follows Holmes and her partner, Billy Evans, during the weeks before she began serving her sentence. Directors Fielder and Oppenheim adopt an immersive approach, becoming part of the narrative rather than remaining strictly observational. Clips from the trailer have gone viral online, and the film is scheduled to open in theaters on Oct. 16.

What Life Will Be Like At The Halfway House
While housed at the Austin Transitional Center, Holmes will still be under federal supervision. The Bureau of Prisons describes residential reentry centers as supervised environments designed to help people nearing release gradually reconnect with their communities. Services often include employment counseling, job-placement assistance, financial-management classes and other reentry programming.

"She will be able to go to work and come back," a Department of Justice source told PEOPLE, noting that any employment must be approved and that residents remain supervised.
Holmes will be permitted visitors, including her two children, though overnight guests are not allowed. Holmes and partner Billy Evans share a son, William (born July 2021), and a daughter, Invicta (born early 2023).

Legal Background
Holmes was convicted in January 2022 on three counts of wire fraud and one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud related to investor claims about Theranos, the blood-testing company she founded. Prosecutors said she misrepresented the capabilities of Theranos' technology to investors; jurors acquitted her on several patient-related counts and deadlocked on other investor-related counts.
She was originally sentenced to 11 years and 3 months and began serving her sentence in May 2023. That term was later reduced to 10 years and 3 months following a retroactive change to federal sentencing guidelines and credit for earned time under the First Step Act, according to ABC News. Her current projected release date is Feb. 22, 2030.
In 2025 a federal appeals court upheld Holmes' fraud convictions and a $452 million restitution order that also involved former Theranos executive Ramesh "Sunny" Balwani.
