On a recent episode of The Daily Beast Podcast, podcaster Jennifer Welch, writer Nell Scovell and The Daily Beast’s Chief Content Officer Joanna Coles explored why Trump appears unable to tolerate women who reject, challenge or refuse to play along—and what those reactions reveal about his ego.

Coles singled out a subset of women who, despite having little else in common, provoke unusually fierce responses from Trump. Taylor Swift, for example, drew fire after she publicly endorsed Kamala Harris during the 2024 campaign; the then-candidate posted on social media, "I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT!" immediately after the endorsement.

Longtime adversary Rosie O’Donnell, whose feud with Trump dates back more than two decades, remains another consistent target.
"What they all have in common is that they have revealed to Trump that they know he's a fraud, and so they put a mirror up to him and they've created a narcissistic injury to him," Welch said, describing the dynamic. "And when a narcissist is injured, they lash out ... the most vicious way possible."
Scovell added context about Trump’s long-running, distorted view of his relationships with women. "Trump thinks he's pretty hot stuff," she said, citing his past comments about women on The Apprentice. Welch echoed the point with a blunt observation about his self-image.

The episode also noted that several women who have worked in or around the White House have departed this year. The podcast named former press secretary Karoline Leavitt among others who have left the administration.
