A spokeswoman for the Bundeswehr Joint Force Command said military police initially secured the scene before transferring responsibility to local authorities. When asked whether the Bundeswehr suspected where the Mechernich drones originated, the armed forces declined to comment on the ongoing inquiry.
'We're not at war, but we are the daily target of hybrid warfare,' German Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt told the Bild newspaper, describing what he called a pattern of 'destabilising' attacks.
