Huntington Hospital in Pasadena was the target of a bomb threat early Friday when a caller who identified themselves as a member of a well-known extremist group phoned in a detailed threat, Pasadena city spokeswoman Lisa Derderian said.
The call was received at approximately 5:49 a.m., prompting an immediate response from Pasadena police. Local authorities notified the Federal Bureau of Investigation to assist with the investigation after the caller named the group and provided additional details, Derderian said.

Police, K-9 teams and firefighters conducted a comprehensive sweep of the campus. After an exhaustive search, officials declared the hospital grounds safe at about 9 a.m. No injuries were reported.
Hospital Response and Impact
A Huntington Hospital spokesperson confirmed that the facility remained open to staff and patients but was closed to outside visitors while officers cleared the property. Many elective procedures and routine appointments were canceled during the response.

“Pasadena Police Department immediately responded to our campus and are investigating,” Dorey Huston, Huntington’s Public Relations & Media Director, told Pasadena Now. “Our hospital is open to staff and patients, with screening protocols in place. We are working closely with our local authorities to ensure safety of our staff, patients, and employees.”

Derderian said the caller identified the group and provided a detailed account of their intended actions. She noted that the group's name is known to law enforcement and that the caller provided information that could aid investigators.
Officials emphasized that such threats are disruptive and divert essential resources from police and fire services. Derderian also highlighted that modern technology can make it easier for perpetrators to place threatening calls and said Pasadena is intensifying efforts to improve detection and attribution methods.
Investigators from the Pasadena Police Department and the FBI continue to examine the threat, trace the origin of the call and determine who is responsible.
