Rep. Andy Ogles (R-TN) on The Benny Show this week publicly challenged Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-SD) to bring the SAVE America Act to the Senate floor or make way for another leader. Ogles said Thune is hiding behind the need to protect a few senators rather than holding an up-or-down vote.
Ogles Demands Action
“If they signed up for that job, put the dadgum bill on the floor, and they can vote on it, and then they can go back home to their constituents and answer those questions,” Ogles said, arguing senators should face a direct vote. He framed the issue as one of accountability and said there are no valid reasons to delay.
“A CNN poll — not the bastion of conservatism — shows 83% of Americans support the Save America Act,” Ogles said, adding that broad public backing should remove excuses for inaction. “Do your dadgum job or get out of the way.”
Calls For Leadership Change
Ogles went further, calling Thune a “coward” for failing to bring the bill forward and urging him to step aside if he will not act. He suggested senators such as Mike Lee, Marsha Blackburn and Sen. Tim Scott could push the legislation to a vote if Thune refuses.
Host Benny Johnson pressed Ogles on whether he was explicitly calling for Thune to resign as leader; Ogles affirmed that interpretation, reiterating his contention that the House has already passed the measure multiple times and that Thune has a mandate to advance it.
