Elon Musk is reactivating his dormant super PAC, America PAC, to mount a large-scale effort to boost Republican turnout in the 2026 midterm elections, Axios has learned.
Insiders say the organization that helped fund GOP efforts in 2024 — reportedly contributing more than $260 million to support President Trump — will prioritize grassroots turnout operations in key battleground states. The revived effort will emphasize door-knocking, targeted digital advertising and direct mail aimed at mobilizing core Republican voters and infrequent voters who often skip non-presidential elections.
What The Plan Involves
According to sources familiar with the plan, America PAC will coordinate closely with other Republican groups to maximize reach and efficiency. By focusing on field operations and voter contact, the PAC intends to free up other GOP organizations to concentrate on television advertising and persuasion campaigns.
Musk's team declined to disclose an exact dollar figure for the midterm push, though the sum is expected to be substantial given his past level of support. America PAC says it knocked on more than 10 million doors during the 2024 cycle across multiple swing states.
“America PAC was an essential partner for our historic GOTV operation in 2024, and their return for 2026 is a huge boost for Republicans across the country,” James Blair, President Trump’s senior political adviser, told Axios. “We will again outsmart our opponents and ruthlessly execute our mission for the GOP between now and Election Day.”
Context And Political Stakes
The move comes as Republicans hold a notable financial advantage: GOP super PACs and party committees reportedly have more than a $300 million cash edge over Democratic counterparts, a figure that does not include roughly $400 million in Trump’s MAGA Inc. fund. Still, fading approval ratings for President Trump — particularly on the economy and the administration's handling of the Iran situation — have introduced electoral risk for Republicans ahead of the Nov. 3 elections.
Musk has been in contact with Trump’s team about where his resources could have the greatest impact. The midterm operation will be run by Musk’s top political adviser, Chris Young, according to sources.
A Note On Past Relations
Relations between Musk and Trump have fluctuated. The pair had a public falling-out following policy and spending disagreements, and at one point Musk considered alternatives to the GOP. Relations warmed over the following year, and by late 2025 Musk resumed donating to Republican causes. One reported example: a $10 million donation to Kentucky GOP Senate candidate Nate Morris, who later left the race to take a role in the Trump administration.
“The president’s political team and the rest of the GOP apparatus have built a top‑notch operation that will put Republicans in a strong position to buck history and retain control of Congress this fall, and we're excited to again be part of the team,” America PAC spokesperson Andrew Romeo told Axios.
As the midterms approach, Musk’s investment in turnout infrastructure could amplify GOP ground operations in key states — and reshape how other Republican groups allocate their resources.
