The TikTok clip shows a Tesla driver so distracted by his phone that a motorcycle deputy films him through the passenger window with a body camera. The driver appears unaware of flashing police lights and a sheriff visible in his side mirror, and only pulls over after the light turns green. The video has drawn widespread criticism and more than 440,000 likes.

A viral TikTok shows a Tesla driver so absorbed in his phone that a motorcycle officer was able to hold a body camera up to the car's passenger-side window and record him. The clip highlights how dangerous and unlawful using a phone while driving can be — even when police lights and a patrol officer are nearby.

The video, posted by TikTok user @ohmyrianon on June 9, captures a black Tesla stopped at a red light. Footage shot from the car behind the Tesla appears to show the motorist looking down at his phone long enough for a motorcycle deputy to step forward, remove his body camera, and film the driver through the passenger window while the motorcycle’s red and blue lights flash.

The driver doesn’t seem to notice the flashing lights or the sheriff reflected in his side mirror. Only after the light turns green and the motorcycle pulls up behind him does the motorist appear to realize he is being followed; he then steers to the roadside and pulls over before the clip ends.

Public Reaction

As of this writing, the TikTok clip has amassed more than 440,000 likes and been shared over 17,000 times. Many viewers expressed disbelief that someone would be using their phone while driving, particularly in a Tesla, which supports hands-free phone integration via Bluetooth and other in-car systems. One typical comment read: "I don't understand why it's so hard for people to stay off their phones while behind the driver's seat — it's honestly sad."

Why It Matters

Distracted driving is a leading cause of accidents and is illegal in many jurisdictions. This clip serves as a stark reminder that momentary lapses in attention can have serious consequences. Drivers should use hands-free systems properly, pull over to a safe location before using a phone, or enable Do Not Disturb while driving.
