Tesla Driver Reportedly Played Guitar While Driving at 60mph on M25 — Summoned to Court

A Tesla driver has been reported to police after allegedly playing a guitar while driving on the M25 — the London Orbital Motorway — at around 60mph, Surrey Police said.

The force said officers were alerted after a 999 call described a motorist brandishing a guitar while on the motorway. When officers stopped the vehicle, they found that the cabin's interior cameras had been covered.

What Police Found

Steering Interference: Officers also discovered a weighted device attached to the steering wheel that appeared intended to make the car register that a driver was holding it, effectively attempting to bypass the vehicle's driver-monitoring safeguards.

Alleged Offence: The driver, who works as a private-hire vehicle operator, has been summoned to appear in court on a charge of driving without due care and attention. Surrey Police said they have notified the driver's licensing authority and that enquiries are ongoing.

Context and Safety Note

Police cautioned that distracting behaviour behind the wheel endangers other road users. Modern vehicles increasingly rely on driver-monitoring systems to detect inattentive or unfit drivers; deliberately obstructing or tampering with those systems may carry additional regulatory or criminal consequences.
