North Carolina Mom Vanishes in Grenada: Family Appeals After Camera Shows Her Swimming Then Disappearing

Liz Waddell, a 44-year-old physical therapist from Cary, North Carolina, has been missing since July 22 after she was last seen on Grand Anse Beach in St. George's, Grenada, authorities and family say. Friends and relatives have mounted a search and are appealing to the public for any information that could lead to her safe return.

What Happened

Waddell was staying at an Airbnb with a friend when she went outside wearing a swimsuit. Security footage from a camera facing a nearby pier captured her swimming and floating between roughly 12 p.m. and 1 p.m. local time before she moved out of the camera's view. Later, a towel belonging to Waddell was found on a pier near the rental, prompting concern.

Search Efforts Underway

The Royal Grenada Police Force distributed missing-persons posters and asked for the public's help, specifically urging fishermen, boat operators and residents along the southern coastline to report any sightings or relevant information. Family spokesperson Amanda Romano-Harmon said, "We want to leave no stone unturned. We just want to bring her home. I really still want there to be a happy ending for this."

Family Response

Husband Cailen Waddell posted an emotional plea on social media on July 24 seeking contacts in Grenada and asking for support. He has since traveled to the island with the couple's daughter and Liz's twin sister to take part in the search. Cailen told local media the police have been communicative and active in the investigation.
