What Happened
Deputies from the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office initially responded to reports of intoxicated people in the roadway and bottles being thrown at passing vehicles. When officers arrived, they found the scene in chaos after gunfire erupted.

Investigation Under Way
Preliminary information indicates the shooter used a handgun, though no suspects have been publicly identified. Homicide detectives described the probe as expected to be "lengthy and complex," noting investigators are canvassing the area, collecting physical evidence and reviewing social media tied to the event.
"This tragic and senseless violence is entirely unacceptable," Santa Clara County Sheriff Robert Jonsen said. "Our hearts go out to the victim's family and to all those affected. We will work tirelessly until those responsible are identified and held accountable."
Multiple agencies responded to the scene, including the Morgan Hill Police Department, Gilroy Police Department, California Highway Patrol and San Jose Police Department. The shooting occurred near Anderson Lake in unincorporated Morgan Hill.
