Rep. Ansari Asks House Republicans To Probe Reported Ties Between Tate Brothers And Barron Trump After Miami Arrests

Democratic Rep. Yassamin Ansari has formally asked House Oversight Committee Chair Rep. James Comer to investigate reported efforts by social media personalities Andrew and Tristan Tate to cultivate relationships within President Donald Trump’s circle — including alleged contacts with his youngest son, Barron Trump.

The Tate brothers were arrested in Miami on July 18 as British authorities seek their extradition on allegations that include rape and sex trafficking. Andrew Tate, 39, also faces 19 additional charges in the U.K. related to indecent images of a child and extreme pornography, according to the Crown Prosecution Service.

In a July 23 letter, Ansari asked Comer to open a congressional inquiry into what she described as the Tates’ “coordination and extensive relationships with members of the President’s orbit, including his son, Barron Trump.” She requested subpoenas for Barron to testify under oath and for records from the White House, the Department of Justice and the State Department about communications involving the Tate brothers, including any exchanges with Romanian or British officials.

Ansari cited multiple specific connections reported by the press: the Tates’ meeting with Texas Republican Rep. Wesley Hunt on Capitol Hill the week before their Miami arrest, and reporting that Paolo Zampolli, a White House special envoy, hosted the brothers at a party days prior. A ProPublica report earlier alleged that Paul Ingrassia, a White House liaison to DHS, intervened to have the Tates’ electronic devices returned after their reentry to the U.S. in 2025.

Reporting has linked 20-year-old Barron Trump to a 2024 video call with Andrew Tate when Barron was 19; Barron has not publicly commented. The Tates have denied all charges. Their attorney, Joe McBride, called the arrests politically motivated and disputed some press accounts. The White House and the State Department have said they do not plan to intervene on the brothers’ behalf, and spokespeople for the first lady and Rep. Comer did not respond to requests for comment.

Andrew and Tristan Tate were detained in Romania in 2022 and indicted in 2023 on allegations including forming a criminal gang, human trafficking and rape; that case entered a state of legal uncertainty in late 2024 but remained open. The brothers returned to the U.S. in 2025 after facing charges in the U.K.

Ansari wrote that recent reporting raises "extremely grave national security, diplomatic and ethical concerns" about whether political networks around the president used influence to shield the Tates.

If congressional subpoenas are issued, investigators would seek to determine whether any back-channel communications between the Tate brothers, presidential advisors, or members of the First Family influenced official actions or administration policies.
