CVS Pharmacy will dispense selected prescriptions for dogs and cats at more than 9,000 U.S. locations, including antibiotics, allergy medicines, flea-and-tick treatments, insulin and pain relievers. Eligible pet prescriptions can use services such as automatic refills, prescription synchronization and, for certain items, home delivery. Pet owners can add animals to their CVS.com profile and manage prescriptions via the CVS Health app. Electronic prescribing for veterinarians is planned to roll out in the coming months.

CVS Health announced that CVS Pharmacy will begin dispensing selected prescription medications for dogs and cats at more than 9,000 locations nationwide. The rollout makes it easier for pet owners to access commonly prescribed treatments, from antibiotics and allergy medicines to insulin and flea-and-tick products.

What Medications Are Available

CVS said participating pharmacies will dispense a range of veterinarian-prescribed drugs for dogs and cats, including:

  • Antibiotics
  • Allergy medications
  • Flea and tick treatments
  • Insulin
  • Pain relievers

Convenience Features

Eligible pet prescriptions can take advantage of standard pharmacy services such as automatic refills and prescription synchronization. Select medications may also be eligible for home delivery. Pet owners can add their animals to their CVS.com profile and manage qualifying prescriptions through the CVS Health mobile app.

How To Fill A Pet Prescription

Pet prescriptions can be filled in two ways:

  • Bring a written prescription from your veterinarian to any CVS Pharmacy.
  • Ask your veterinarian to send the prescription directly to CVS Pharmacy.

Once received, customers can pick up medications in store or choose delivery when available.

"We know that CVS Pharmacy is a trusted partner in our patients' health care journeys," said Sid Tenneti, Senior Vice President and Interim President of Pharmacy and Consumer Wellness at CVS Health. "With the launch of pet medication dispensing, our pharmacies are now able to serve every member of the family."

What’s Coming Next

CVS Health said additional features will be introduced in the coming months, including electronic prescribing capabilities for veterinarians to transmit prescriptions directly to CVS pharmacies.

Where CVS Fits In The Market

By adding pet prescription dispensing, CVS joins other national retailers that already offer veterinary prescription services, including Publix, Costco, Walmart and Walgreens.

Note: Availability may vary by location and by specific medication; pet owners should check with their local CVS Pharmacy or the CVS Health app for details.
