Double Surprise in Queensland Bedroom: Carpet Python and Giant Huntsman Spider Removed
June 25 (UPI) — A routine call to remove a large python from a Queensland bedroom turned into a double encounter when the snake catcher discovered an enormous huntsman spider on the wall above the bed.
Stuart McKenzie of Sunshine Coast Snake Catchers 24/7 responded after a resident reported a sizeable snake in their home. Video shared by the business shows McKenzie entering the room and spotting the giant huntsman spider, which he later described as one of the largest he'd seen.
How the Rescue Unfolded
The footage captures McKenzie using a hook to safely secure the carpet python — a non-venomous species commonly found in the area — and then using his hat to coax the huntsman into containment. Both animals were handled calmly and released away from the home: the spider was freed outdoors near the property, and the python was relocated to a nearby wooded area.
"A SPIDER and a SNAKE in the same bedroom," the post read. "This is what some people's nightmares are made of."
Huntsman spiders are often large but are generally not dangerous to people, while carpet pythons are non-venomous. The video offers a striking reminder to exercise caution and call trained professionals when encountering wildlife in or around the home.
