An adventurous goat in Butler County, Ohio, turned a routine animal roundup into a brief action scene after leaping onto the roof of an SUV and then sprinting into nearby woods.
According to UPI, deputies were dispatched to a residence on Oxford Middletown Road after eight goats wandered into a backyard. Officers attempted to round up the animals and return them to their owners.
"The group on the property consisted of seven adult goats and one juvenile goat," the Butler County Sheriff's Office wrote on Facebook.
The Sheriff's Office said the animals were reluctant to leave. "Despite extensive negotiations involving snacks and coaxing, the goats were reluctant to leave their newly claimed residence," the post added.
Deputies were able to reunite seven of the eight animals with their owners, but one particularly stubborn goat made a dramatic getaway. "Deputies successfully assisted in returning seven of the eight goats home. However, one particularly stubborn suspect escaped custody, jumped off the roof of an SUV, and fled into a nearby wooded area," the department wrote.
While perched atop the vehicle, the goat appeared to wait for the right moment before leaping down and sprinting toward tree cover. The Sheriff's Department did not immediately pursue the animal into the woods, and its current whereabouts remain unknown.
The escapee was described as a "white male goat with brown markings on the right side of his face" and characterized as short, "extremely stubborn and highly mischievous." Authorities emphasized that the animal "is not considered dangerous, but he may be armed with an attitude."
Why Loose Livestock Matters
Loose farm animals can create problems for homeowners, drivers and the animals themselves. Wandering goats may damage landscaping, become injured, or end up in the road where they present a hazard to motorists. In this case deputies quickly rounded up seven of the eight goats, but locating the final escapee remains a priority for the department.
At the time of the post, authorities had not provided an update on the goat's whereabouts.
