Authorities cleared a Homeland Security satellite office in the Cleveland suburb of Brooklyn Heights and evacuated at least seven nearby buildings on June 15, 2026, after a K-9 alerted to a suspicious package that was later determined to contain a live explosive device.
The device was discovered in a UPS drop box inside an office complex at 925 Keynote Circle, where a Cleveland Homeland Security office—operating as a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) satellite under the Detroit Field Office—is located alongside other federal operations.

"On June 15, 2026, Federal Protective Service was conducting a sweep of a publicly accessible lobby at a ICE office building in Brooklyn Heights, Ohio. During the sweep, a K-9 alerted to a suspicious package in a UPS drop box," a Federal Protective Service spokesperson said.
FPS immediately notified local law enforcement and ordered a full precautionary evacuation. The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), and local police responded and coordinated on scene with FPS. The ATF described the response as a "hazardous device incident."
Officials later announced an all-clear and allowed occupants to re-enter the building. No injuries were reported. The FBI and ATF are leading the ongoing investigation into the device and the circumstances surrounding its placement.

Public records show the complex also houses the Office of the Principal Legal Advisor (OPLA) and ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) bond-acceptance facilities; it was not immediately clear whether those specific offices were directly affected by the package or included in the evacuation.
