The latest NBC News poll places President Trump’s approval among registered voters at 42% with 57% disapproving — a new second‑term low. The survey of 2,400 registered voters (May 29–June 7, 2026) has a ±2% margin of error. Other national polls from YouGov/The Economist and Emerson College show similar declines, notably on economic management and among independents, Latinos and younger voters. Analysts point to foreign‑policy concerns, including Iran, and earlier gasoline price increases as likely contributors; the White House responded with a standard statement praising its record.

President Donald Trump’s approval rating among registered voters has slipped to a new low for his second term, an NBC News poll released Sunday found.

Key Findings

The NBC News survey shows 42% of registered voters approve of the president’s performance while 57% disapprove. Among all adults, Trump’s approval is 39% with 58% disapproving. The poll interviewed 2,400 registered voters between May 29 and June 7, 2026, and reports a margin of error of ±2 percentage points.

Trends and Demographics

NBC notes declines from prior readings with the same pollster: 44% in March, 43% in October and 47% in March of the previous year. The new poll also shows weaker support among key groups: 34% of Latino respondents approve while 64% disapprove, and just 21% of 18–29-year-olds approve compared with 77% who disapprove. Several national trackers additionally show falling support among independent voters.

Other Polls Show Similar Weakness

Separate national surveys mirror the downward trend. A YouGov/The Economist poll taken June 5–8 among 1,568 U.S. adults found overall approval at 35% and disapproval at 60% (MOE 3.6%). That same YouGov/The Economist survey also reported low marks for Trump’s handling of the economy: 29% of Americans said they strongly or somewhat approve of his economic management, while 63% disapprove. An Emerson College Polling survey of 1,200 likely voters conducted June 7–8 put approval at 39% and disapproval at 55% (MOE 2.8%).

Context And Possible Drivers

Analysts say the recent declines reflect public reaction to several developments, including the administration's handling of tensions with Iran and broader foreign-policy issues, and the effect of earlier rises in gasoline prices across the country. Shifts in approval and disapproval can complicate Republican strategies heading into midterm elections, particularly because independents often decide close contests.

Response From The White House

Newsweek contacted the White House by email Sunday night seeking comment. In response to earlier polls, the White House supplied an oft-used statement from spokesman Davis Ingle praising the November 2024 election outcome and touting the administration's accomplishments:

The ultimate poll was November 5th 2024 when nearly 80 million Americans overwhelmingly elected President Trump to deliver on his popular and commonsense agenda. No other President in history has accomplished more for the American people than President Trump, who is working tirelessly to create jobs, cool inflation, increase housing affordability, and more. The President has already made historic progress not only in America but around the world, and this is just the beginning as his agenda continues taking effect.

Observers say the next few months will be closely watched to see whether these polling trends persist and how they shape political dynamics ahead of the midterms.
