LIMA, June 8 — Leftist candidate Roberto Sánchez moved into a narrow lead in Peru's presidential contest on Monday, registering 50.01% of the vote to Keiko Fujimori's 49.9% with 93.92% of ballots tallied in the official count.
Fujimori held an early advantage after voting closed on Sunday, but Sánchez steadily narrowed the gap as additional returns — particularly from rural regions — were added to the tally.
The margin between the two candidates is extremely slim, roughly 0.11 percentage points, leaving the final outcome subject to change as the remaining ballots are counted and certified.
