Authorities in Indianapolis are investigating a deadly shooting that tore through a prom party held at a short-term rental early on May 3, leaving a 38-year-old woman dead and multiple others injured.
What Happened
Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers responded to a residence around 1 a.m. on Sunday, May 3, and found an adult woman suffering from gunshot wound(s). She was transported to a hospital and later died. Local tributes and coroner records identified the victim as 38-year-old Brittany Marie Members.
The shooting occurred during a prom party being held for Members’ daughter at the short-term rental, according to IMPD and local media reports. Two other people were wounded and went to the hospital on their own; earlier local reports suggested a third person may have been hurt while fleeing, but that detail had not been confirmed by investigators.
Eyewitness Accounts
"We could almost feel the vibration," neighbor Jack Anderson told WTHR, saying the gunfire awakened residents and created chaos.
Neighbor Brandi Mitchell described the scene to FOX 59 as "pure pandemonium," and said she woke to find a bullet hole in her front window.
One nearby resident estimated "probably 60+ shots" were fired; IMPD has declined to verify that figure while the investigation is ongoing.

No arrests had been announced as of Tuesday. The IMPD is offering up to a $1,000 cash reward for tips that lead to a felony arrest in the case.
