White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles will convene a meeting this week to review presidential security after a shooting occurred near a gathering of journalists and administration officials in Washington, a senior White House official told Reuters on Monday.
The official said President Trump and the White House continue to stand by the leadership of the U.S. Secret Service following the incident outside the hotel ballroom where the White House Correspondents' Association dinner was being held.
Wiles is expected to meet early this week with senior leaders from the Secret Service and the Department of Homeland Security to discuss "protocol and practices" for major events involving the president, the official said. The meeting will examine the security response on Saturday and consider additional steps to reduce risk and protect attendees at future events.

Officials said the review will look at operational tactics, coordination between agencies, and any procedural changes needed for large public gatherings involving the president. The goal is to identify gaps and implement measures "to keep future events safe," the senior official added.
