A shooting at the Teotihuacán archaeological site in the State of Mexico has left a Canadian woman dead and several others wounded, Mexican authorities said Monday.
According to preliminary information posted by Mexico's security cabinet on X, a man opened fire near the Pyramid of the Moon, fatally shooting a Canadian tourist before apparently taking his own life. Authorities recovered a firearm, a bladed weapon and live cartridges at the scene.

The State of Mexico reported at least six people were injured — four by gunshot wounds and two by falls — and are receiving medical treatment. Secretary of Security for the State of Mexico, Cristóbal Castañeda, told reporters that among the wounded were two Colombian nationals, one Canadian and one Russian. He added that the situation is under control.
Video shared on social media shows visitors fleeing the area after gunshots were heard. Teotihuacán, a UNESCO World Heritage Site roughly 30 miles (about 50 km) northeast of Mexico City, is one of Mexico's most visited archaeological zones and includes the Pyramid of the Sun and the Pyramid of the Moon.
“What happened today in Teotihuacán deeply hurts us. I express my most sincere solidarity with the people affected and their families. We are in contact with the Canadian embassy,” President Claudia Sheinbaum said, noting that federal, state and local agencies are responding to the incident.
Mexico’s foreign ministry said it is coordinating with foreign missions to provide assistance to affected nationals. State of Mexico Governor Delfina Gómez also expressed solidarity with victims and their families. CNN has contacted the Canadian Foreign Ministry and the embassies of Colombia and Russia for comment.
