The footage, recorded on Wednesday and later posted to X, shows the mounted officer and his horse, Kelly, closing in on a fleeing suspect as pedestrians scramble aside to clear a path. The officer is repeatedly heard shouting, "Stop! Stop running!"
As the pursuit reaches its climax, the horse approaches the suspect, who is being restrained by a good Samaritan behind a Verizon truck. The officer then moves in and, on camera, says, "I’m putting cuffs on you," before adding, "You’re being detained." He places handcuffs on the suspect while the witness assists.
"Whether on foot or on hooves, our officers are always ready," the NYPD wrote alongside the clip, noting that the purse was recovered near West 72nd Street with the help of a witness.
The short video has drawn attention online for the striking sight of a mounted officer pursuing a suspect through crowded city streets and for the decisive role a bystander played in securing the arrest. The NYPD post did not provide further details about charges or the suspect’s identity.
