A security guard was shot and killed early on March 7 after intervening to break up a physical altercation outside Saddle Bar in Acworth, Georgia, authorities said.
Police identified the victim as Jordan Alexander Jones, 28, of Lawrenceville. According to the Acworth Police Department, officers responded to the scene at about 2:42 a.m. and found Jones suffering from a gunshot wound. First responders provided aid and he was transported to Kennestone Hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
The department said it notified Jones' family and extended condolences as the investigation continues.
Suspect Arrested, Charged
Investigators identified Daniel Di Vonne Parsons, 25, of Douglasville, as the suspect. Police allege Parsons had been involved in the fight and, when Jones stepped in to separate the individuals, the suspect retrieved a firearm and shot Jones. Parsons was located on foot nearby on Baker Road and taken into custody without incident.

Parsons has been charged with aggravated assault, aggravated battery and aggravated murder, and jail records show he is being held without bond at the Cobb County Adult Detention Center. The Acworth Police Department said the investigation is ongoing.

Edward Jones described his nephew as someone who would step in to stop wrongdoing, saying Jordan used a nonviolent hold to separate the individuals before the shooting.
Saddle Bar posted a statement on social media expressing heartbreak and praising Jones as a “brave individual who put himself in harm’s way to protect someone else.” The venue said the incident took place behind the establishment in the parking lot after closing, that it would be closed for the weekend, and that it plans to make a donation to support Jones' family. The bar also thanked the Acworth Police Department, Acworth Fire Department and EMS for their response.
