“Thoughts and Prayers” Post Sparks Viral Clash Between Ilhan Omar and Nancy Mace
A social media post by Rep. Nancy Mace (R‑SC) directed at Democratic Reps. Ilhan Omar (D‑MN) and Rashida Tlaib (D‑MI) ignited a highly personal exchange on Sunday that quickly drew national attention.
The confrontation began after a post shared by Mace featured a Fox News graphic reading, “Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei Confirmed Dead.” Mace captioned the graphic: “My heart goes out to Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib tonight. Sending them thoughts and prayers.”
Omar responded sharply, referencing longstanding rumors about Mace’s alleged drinking—claims Mace has denied. “I hope you aren’t drunk and took your staff’s advice,” Omar wrote, and added that she and Tlaib “don’t know this man and feel confident he didn’t care about us,” in reference to the image of Khamenei.
Religious Context: Omar also invoked the Muslim holy month of Ramadan while addressing Mace, writing: “Please restrain from drinking too much as you have been warned from your staff and stay off social media when you are drunk. I pray in his holy month you find peace and respect for your self.”
Mace publicly rebutted the drinking allegations on X, explaining she has hemochromatosis, a genetic condition that causes iron overload and requires regular phlebotomies to remove excess iron. “Any and all alcohol makes it worse,” she wrote. “Mystery solved. Nancy Mace isn’t an alcoholic. Nor do I ‘imbibe.'”
“So tell me, what was it like being married to your brother?” Mace wrote in a later post, a reference to unproven accusations that critics have levied against Omar. In another post Mace called Omar a “terrorist lover.”
Those personal attacks — and the allegations they reference — have been disputed and remain unsubstantiated. Omar has denied the claims about her personal life. The exchange highlighted existing tensions between the lawmakers and quickly became a focal point across social platforms, drawing criticism and support from different corners of the political spectrum.
