Early on Sunday, Feb. 22, an armed individual was shot and killed after breaching the security perimeter of former President Donald Trump's Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach, Florida, authorities said.
U.S. Secret Service communications chief Anthony Guglielmi said the person entered the property at about 1:30 a.m. local time and was "observed by the north gate of the Mar-a-Lago property carrying what appeared to be a shotgun and a fuel can." U.S. Secret Service agents and a Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office (PBSO) deputy confronted the individual and shots were fired during the encounter.

No Secret Service or PBSO personnel were injured, and no Secret Service protectees were present at the property at the time. The identity of the person has not been released.
Investigation Underway
The FBI, the U.S. Secret Service and the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office are jointly investigating the incident, including the individual's background, actions, any potential motive and the use of force. In accordance with standard procedure, the involved Secret Service agents have been placed on routine administrative leave pending the outcome of the review.
Former President Donald Trump and former First Lady Melania Trump were in Washington, D.C., at the White House when the incident occurred, according to the Associated Press. Agencies had not immediately provided additional comment on Feb. 22. Authorities described the situation as a developing story.
