Louisville Lyft Driver Accused Of Sexual Assault, Kidnapping; Faces Federal Immigration Detainer

A Louisville Lyft driver has been charged after a woman alleges she was sexually assaulted and kidnapped during a ride to a doctor’s appointment, and is now the subject of a U.S. immigration detainer, according to Louisville Metro Police Department (LMPD) records.

Police identified the suspect as Yordan Diaz Vera, 34, of Louisville. LMPD records show he faces charges of first-degree sodomy, menacing and kidnapping related to an incident reported on Feb. 4.

Allegations From The Ride

According to the incident report, the victim told investigators that her doctor’s office arranged a Lyft ride to transport her to an appointment. After picking up the passenger, Diaz Vera allegedly opened the vehicle’s glove compartment and displayed a firearm.

Police say Diaz Vera then pulled the vehicle over, exited the front seat and moved into the backseat with the victim. The victim tried to exit but could not open the locked door, and she alleges Diaz Vera forced her into sexual acts while in the backseat. The victim was dropped off at the doctor’s office, where she was able to call police.

Lyft said it is working with authorities in relation to the case.

"The subject was taken into custody quickly due to the prompt reporting and timely investigative actions by the LMPD SVU Office of Sexual and Physical Investigations. Immigration Detainer And Company Response

LMPD records indicate a U.S. immigration detainer has been placed against Diaz Vera, suggesting federal authorities believe he may be subject to removal. The Department of Homeland Security did not immediately confirm his immigration status to Fox News Digital.

Lyft told Fox News Digital that Diaz Vera was permanently removed from the platform and that the company is cooperating with law enforcement. A Lyft spokesperson said the behavior described is reprehensible and has no place in the Lyft community. Lyft also noted drivers must meet platform requirements, including a valid Social Security number and a driver’s license.

LMPD said there is currently no evidence the incident is part of a pattern of related offenses. Authorities continue to investigate.
