Louisiana school's teacher of the year accused of inappropriate conduct with former student
Christie Oster, a 38-year-old teacher at Broussard Middle School who had been named the school's 2025–2026 Teacher of the Year, was arrested again this week on an additional juvenile-related charge, local authorities reported.

Oster was previously arrested by the Lafayette Police Department on counts of carnal knowledge of a juvenile and indecent behavior with juveniles. Bond on those initial counts was set at $50,000. This week she was booked on a separate second count of indecent behavior with juveniles; a $10,000 bond was set on that charge. Combined, the bonds total $60,000.

What Officials Say
Capt. Zac Gerard of the Broussard Police Department told Fox News Digital that his office "actually work[s] in conjunction with the Lafayette Police Department," and that the additional indecent-behavior charge was added based on alleged conduct that fell within Broussard's jurisdiction.
"We actually work in conjunction with the Lafayette Police Department," Capt. Zac Gerard said.
Authorities said Oster turned herself in at the Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office on the warrant. The Lafayette Police Department has indicated the alleged victim was a former student of Oster's. The Lafayette Parish School System has placed Oster on administrative leave while investigations continue.
