Watch live: Kristi Noem, a prominent Republican and ally of former President Donald Trump, will deliver remarks Wednesday afternoon in Nogales, Arizona, about the Trump administration’s border wall project. President Trump has said he hopes the wall will be completed by 2029.

Last year, Noem suggested that sections of the U.S.-Mexico border wall could be painted black so the surface would become too hot for migrants to scale — a proposal that drew widespread attention and criticism.

DHS Scrutiny and Recent Controversy

The briefing comes as the Department of Homeland Security faces increasing scrutiny over federal immigration-enforcement tactics, including allegations about the use of force during deportation operations and at protests. Critics, civil rights groups and some lawmakers have raised concerns about the scope and methods of recent federal actions.

Noem has also faced calls to resign or to be impeached after two U.S. citizens — Renee Good and Alex Pretti — were shot and killed in separate incidents in Minneapolis last month involving federal agents. Those incidents have intensified public debate over federal law enforcement tactics and accountability.
