Search Underway for 12-Year-Old Danny Missing After Family Lost Sight of Him While Swimming at Venus Bay

Victoria Police have launched a large-scale search after 12-year-old Danny went missing on Sunday, Jan. 25, at Venus Bay on Victoria's east coast. Authorities say the boy was swimming at No. 4 Beach when his family lost sight of him at about 11:30 a.m. local time.
Danny, who is from the Melbourne suburb of Taylors Hill, is described as approximately 5 ft 5 in tall with short dark hair, dark eyes and a thin build. He was last seen wearing a navy-blue rash vest and navy-blue boardshorts with a white stripe.
Emergency services were notified shortly after 1 p.m., and police coordinated a multi-agency response that included the Victoria Police Air Wing, the Water Police Squad, Coast Guard, the Victoria State Emergency Service, Life Saving Victoria and volunteer beachgoers.
Ongoing Search and Public Appeal
Search efforts continued through the afternoon and were planned to continue until nightfall, with operations set to resume the following morning, Monday, Jan. 26. Victoria Police have appealed to anyone who may have seen Danny, or who has information or footage that could assist the investigation, to come forward.
“His family lost sight of him and commenced a search, with assistance from members of the public,” Victoria Police said.
