Local Concerns Over Road Safety

Declan Kearney, the Sinn Féin MLA for South Antrim, spoke publicly about longstanding safety concerns on this stretch of Moira Road. He noted that the route has a history of serious collisions and carries high volumes of traffic at speeds up to 60 mph. Kearney warned that an overtaking lane near the Nutts Corner market, which continues from the roundabout past the market, can create particular hazards for vehicles attempting to join the main carriageway. He said he intends to write to the Department for Infrastructure’s Divisional Roads Manager to seek improvements and extended his sympathy to those affected.

The Collision Investigation Unit continues to examine the circumstances surrounding the crash and is asking anyone with information or footage to come forward to assist their enquiries.
