DJI Urges U.S. To Complete Security Review or Extend Dec. 23 Deadline — Warns New Drone Sales Could Be Blocked

DJI has asked U.S. lawmakers and the Trump administration to either finish a required security review quickly or extend the Dec. 23 deadline. If the review is not completed, DJI warns it would be placed on the FCC’s "Covered List," effectively barring the company from offering new drone models in the United States. The company said the deadline risked destabilizing the drone sector and threatening jobs, innovation and public safety.

WASHINGTON, Dec. 4 — DJI, the Chinese maker of consumer and commercial drones, urged Congress and the Trump administration on Thursday to promptly finish a mandated national security review of the company or to extend the current December 23 deadline for its completion.

Legislation passed by Congress last year requires the review to be completed before late December. If the audit is not finished by the deadline, DJI says it will be placed on the Federal Communications Commission’s "Covered List," a designation the company warns would effectively prevent it from offering new drone models in the United States.

"Failure to complete this Congressionally-mandated audit on time threatens to destabilize a critical sector, putting American innovation, jobs, livelihoods, and public safety at risk,"
DJI wrote in a letter to House Speaker Mike Johnson.

The company framed the request as a practical step to avoid market disruption and protect U.S. customers and partners that rely on DJI hardware and software. DJI said an extended or completed review would allow it to continue introducing products and supporting existing customers in the U.S. market.

Observers say the outcome could have broad implications for the U.S. drone industry, supply chains and public-safety users that depend on DJI platforms. The firm urged lawmakers to act quickly to ensure stability while the security concerns are addressed.
