Acrobat Dies Months After Neck Injury During Chester Zoo Performance

Muharami Jamadi Ramadhani, 42, died on Nov. 25 after suffering a broken neck when he landed on his head while attempting a backflip during a performance at Chester Zoo on Aug. 6, local reporting says. He was taken to Leeds General Infirmary for treatment and later developed pneumonia while hospitalized.

Ramadhani, who was born in Tanzania and lived in Bradford, remained under medical care following the accident. According to the Chester Standard and the Cheshire Coroner’s Court, a brief hearing into his death was opened by Area Coroner Victoria Davies due to the possibility that the death was non-natural.

Inquest Scheduled

A full inquest has been scheduled to begin on May 5, 2026. The upcoming proceedings will examine the circumstances of the performance accident, the medical care he received, and any factors that contributed to his death, including the reported pneumonia.

Chester Zoo said: “We are devastated to hear of the tragic passing of Muharami — an acrobat who shared his remarkable talent with so many through the years. All of us at Chester Zoo send our deepest sympathy to his family, friends and colleagues following this heartbreaking news.”

Local sources also note that roughly a month before the August incident, an air ambulance was called to the zoo for a separate "medical incident," according to the Wirral Globe. MEDIA OUTLETS have reported these details while People has reached out to Chester Zoo and Cheshire Coroner’s Court for additional comment. Further facts are expected to emerge during the inquest next year.
