A 38-year-old woman and a 17-year-old girl arrested after a six-year-old boy suffered a medical episode in Scunthorpe have been released on conditional bail.

Humberside Police said the child was taken to hospital and died shortly afterwards; the death is being treated as unexplained and a scene guard remains in place.

Detective Chief Inspector Ben Robinson said enquiries are ongoing and anyone with information should contact Humberside Police.

Two released on conditional bail after child dies in Scunthorpe

A 38-year-old woman and a 17-year-old girl who were arrested on suspicion of causing or allowing the death of a child have been released on conditional bail, Humberside Police say.

Officers were called to a home on Searby Road in Scunthorpe at about 09:00 GMT on Monday following reports that a six-year-old boy was experiencing a medical episode. The child was taken to hospital but died a short time later.

Detective Chief Inspector Ben Robinson, who is leading the inquiry, said the two people arrested in connection with the death have been released "whilst enquiries are ongoing" and the death is being treated as unexplained.

A scene guard remains in place at the address while detectives continue their enquiries. Police are urging anyone with information that could assist the investigation to come forward and contact Humberside Police.
