Man Dies After Falling From Luxury Yacht Off Newhaven — Body Recovered

A man has died after falling overboard from a luxury yacht in the English Channel off Newhaven on Nov. 30, authorities confirmed.

Sussex Police said HM Coastguard was notified at about 11:40 a.m. local time after a person fell into the sea. A Coastguard-led search recovered a body from the water, and the man has since been identified. His next of kin have been informed.

"A search led by the Coastguard was carried out, and a body was recovered from the sea," a police spokesperson said. "Our thoughts are with his family at this difficult time. No further details are available at this stage."

Rescue teams that joined the search included RNLI lifeboats from Shoreham and Newhaven, an HM Coastguard rescue helicopter, a Coastguard fixed-wing aircraft and nearby vessels that offered assistance. Reports indicate a fellow passenger on the catamaran raised the alarm; the vessel was later towed back to shore.

Authorities have not released additional details about how the incident occurred. An inquiry into the circumstances is expected to follow as investigators and emergency services compile their findings.

Similar tragedies have occurred in the English Channel in recent years, underscoring the risks of maritime activity even in well-traveled waters.
