Milwaukee 4-Year-Old Found Safe After Sibling Search; Police Say 12-Year-Old May Have Been Armed

Milwaukee police confirmed that 4-year-old Nevin Powell and his 12-year-old sister, Sanuya Wooten-Powell, were found safe on Wednesday, Dec. 3, after several hours apart from their guardian.

Nevin was last in contact with a guardian on Tuesday, Dec. 2, and witnesses reported seeing the siblings walking together on North Fifth Street. Officers were especially concerned for Nevin’s welfare because he was reportedly without a coat or shoes in cold weather.

Police also told investigators that the older sibling might have been armed and that she was the subject of an outstanding felony warrant alleging battery on a police officer. Officials did not release details about any weapon or confirm whether she had been formally charged or taken into custody in connection with the warrant.

Authorities provided limited public details about the investigation. Family and community members were notified while officers worked to locate the children, and officials later confirmed both were safe.

What remains unclear: authorities have not shared additional information about the circumstances that led to the warrant or the exact location where the children were found.
