Two children who were first reported missing from Redmond, Washington, in December 2023 have been located safely in Virginia and returned to their father's custody, authorities said.
Recovery After Nationwide Search
The U.S. Marshals Service said it was contacted in August 2026 to assist the Redmond Police Department and the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC). Investigators traced leads to the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area and ultimately located the children in Virginia on Sept. 16, 2026.
"It was determined that the children's mother had taken them after losing custody and concealed their names in an attempt to evade law enforcement," the Marshals Service said.
Officials said the children were found safe and were returned to their father's care. Authorities have not released the children's ages or the precise location in Virginia, and they have not said whether any charges have been filed.
Interagency Effort
Investigators emphasized that cooperation between the U.S. Marshals, local police and NCMEC was central to the recovery. The matter remains under review as agencies coordinate next steps to ensure the children's welfare.
