Marjorie Taylor Greene Denies 2028 White House Bid as Daughter Calls Rumors "A Lie"

Marjorie Taylor Greene and her daughter, Lauren Greene Sanders, disputed reports that Greene’s planned January resignation signals a 2028 presidential run. Both called the stories false after a Time report cited unnamed sources. Greene has recently clashed with Donald Trump over the 43‑day government shutdown and disputes about Epstein‑related documents; those rifts led Trump to withdraw his support and label her a "traitor." Greene has said she is not running and is focused on speaking out, even against her own party.

Marjorie Taylor Greene and her daughter, Lauren Greene Sanders, forcefully rejected media reports suggesting Greene’s planned resignation from the House is a precursor to a 2028 presidential campaign.

Greene announced she will vacate her seat in January and shared a video message explaining the decision. Her daughter shared the video on X and expressed pride, writing that her mother is a “one of a kind Congresswoman” and “110% on America First, American Only.”

“This is a lie,” Lauren Greene Sanders wrote on X in response to a Time report that cited unnamed sources suggesting Greene was eyeing the White House.

Greene echoed that denial on X, posting a screenshot of the article and calling the coverage dishonest: “That’s not journalism, it’s called lying. I’m not running for President and never said I wanted to and have only laughed about it when anyone would mention it.”

Why the reports surfaced

Greene rose to national prominence in 2020 as a vocal supporter of Donald Trump and the MAGA movement. In recent weeks she has publicly broken with Trump over his handling of a 43‑day government shutdown that ended Nov. 12 and over disputes related to classified documents tied to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

In her resignation statement Greene referenced the fight over the Epstein files and criticized several Republican colleagues, including House Speaker Mike Johnson of Louisiana. She also claimed some establishment Republicans embraced after the 2024 election “secretly hate” Trump.

Those public clashes prompted Trump to withdraw his support and to call Greene a “traitor” after her resignation announcement.

Explaining her current stance to Vanity Fair, Greene said she is “doubling down on how much I love this country and its people” and that she is willing to publicly disagree even with members of her own side.

Despite the speculation, both Greene and her daughter have denied any intent to run for president in 2028.
