The Irvine Police Department shared surveillance footage on Nov. 19 showing a man who allegedly followed an Amazon delivery driver into an apartment building and stole multiple packages. The clip quickly spread on social media because the suspect bears a striking resemblance to Backstreet Boys member AJ McLean, though authorities say they do not believe the celebrity is involved.

What happened

Police say the suspect entered the apartment building behind an Amazon driver and removed several delivered packages from a common area before leaving. The department released the video to ask for the public's help in identifying the man seen in the footage.

"We’re pretty sure this isn’t AJ McLean from the @backstreetboys, but the resemblance had us doing a double take," the Irvine Police Department wrote in its post.

Officers used a lighthearted reference to the band's hits while urging anyone with information to come forward: "Quit playin’ games with our mail. Backstreet’s back, but your packages shouldn’t be going with him."
