A cargo ship docked at the Port of Los Angeles in San Pedro caught fire Friday evening; all 23 crew members were evacuated safely and no injuries were reported. Fire Erupts on Cargo Ship Docked at Port of Los Angeles

A cargo vessel moored at the Port of Los Angeles in San Pedro caught fire Friday evening, prompting the safe evacuation of all 23 crew members and a large emergency response. Officials reported no injuries.

The blaze was visible on multiple decks. An explosion amidships at about 8 p.m. knocked out the ship's power, disrupting lighting and crane operations. More than 100 Los Angeles Fire Department personnel were dispatched to fight the fire and secure the scene.

Hazardous materials were identified in the affected cargo bays, and hazmat teams are actively monitoring air quality around the vessel to protect port workers and nearby communities. Fire-suppression and hazardous-materials mitigation efforts remained ongoing as crews worked to contain the incident and assess damage.

"First responders are actively responding to a fire on a container ship at the Port of Los Angeles," Mayor Karen Bass wrote on X. "LAFD continues fire-suppression efforts and is monitoring air quality."

Authorities have not yet released a cause for the fire. Investigators and port officials are coordinating to determine next steps and to ensure the safety of personnel, cargo and nearby neighborhoods.
