16-Year-Old Student Dies After Fall Outside Regis High School

A 16-year-old student died after falling outside Regis High School, a tuition-free, merit-based Catholic boys' school on Manhattan's Upper East Side, on Nov. 13. According to the New York Police Department, officers responded to an emergency call at about 9:29 a.m. and found the teenager with injuries consistent with having fallen from an elevated position.

The student was transported to NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead. The NYPD said an investigation into the circumstances is ongoing and that no arrests have been made. Authorities have not released the student’s name pending family notification and further inquiry.

Regis released a statement calling the event "an unimaginable tragedy," writing, "It is with heavy hearts that we write that one of our students tragically lost his life." The school added, "We are deeply saddened by his loss, and we pray that the Lord welcomes him into eternal rest and comforts his family."

The school said counselors and campus ministers will be available to any student or parent in need of support. Regis is known for offering tuition-free education to students selected on a merit basis and for giving special consideration to families with financial need.
