An airstrike hit the al-Asala apartment block in the Remal neighbourhood of western Gaza City early Saturday, killing at least five people and severely wounding six, medical staff at al-Shifa Hospital said. Witnesses and reporters said the attack occurred without warning in the middle of the night and reportedly tore through multiple floors of the building. Fires burned for around an hour before the Palestinian Civil Defence extinguished them, and rescue teams continued searching under rubble amid ongoing drone and jet activity. Among the dead were four women, including an elderly Christian woman and her daughter.
Israeli Airstrike on Gaza City Apartment Block Kills at Least Five, Wounds Six

An Israeli airstrike struck the al-Asala apartment block in the Remal neighbourhood of western Gaza City early on Saturday, killing at least five people and severely wounding six, medical staff at al-Shifa Hospital said.
Al Jazeera's Hani al-Shaer, reporting from Khan Younis, said the attack came without prior warning in the middle of the night when most residents were asleep. He described hearing jets followed by strikes: \"We heard fighter jets getting louder, then three strikes followed, hitting the apartment and killing those inside,\" he said.
Reporters at the scene said the strike penetrated the targeted apartment and tore through the floors below, causing significant damage throughout the multi-storey building. Fires burned for about an hour before crews from the Palestinian Civil Defence managed to extinguish them.
Rescue teams continued searching the rubble for missing people and bodies while witnesses reported Israeli drones overhead and low-flying fighter jets across the Gaza Strip.
Al-Shifa Hospital said the fatalities included four women, among them an elderly Christian woman and her daughter. The six wounded were transported to al-Shifa Hospital for treatment; casualty figures may evolve as rescue operations continue.
Context: Remal is one of Gaza City's most densely populated residential districts and shelters thousands of displaced people living in makeshift camps.
