The Metropolitan Police released footage of a high-speed chase on the M25 in which a driver reached 130 mph before officers stopped and arrested him. The driver, identified as 24-year-old Mudassir Sandhu of Morden, told officers he had inhaled nitrous oxide and was reacting to his girlfriend's alleged infidelity. Sandhu was charged with dangerous driving and failing to stop; in June he was sentenced to 12 months in prison, fined £187 and banned from driving for four months. Police used a stinger device and broke the BMW's glass to remove him, and Scotland Yard praised the officer's calm handling of the pursuit.

A viral video released by the Metropolitan Police shows a high-speed pursuit on the M25 that ended with a 24-year-old driver arrested after reaching speeds of 130 mph. The man told officers he had inhaled nitrous oxide and was reacting to his girlfriend's alleged infidelity — an explanation that did nothing to excuse the dangerous driving.

What Happened

The incident occurred in the early hours of March 3. Met Police footage posted on Instagram captures an officer pursuing the vehicle on the M25. The officer can be heard shouting "Contact! Contact!" as he manoeuvres to block the car and ultimately forces it to stop near Cobham services at about 2:20 a.m.

After the car was stopped, officers pulled the driver from the BMW X1, pinned him to the road and handcuffed him. During the confrontation the officer can be heard saying:

"Because you're driving like an absolute imbecile!"

The detainee reportedly told officers he had been inhaling "balloons" of nitrous oxide and that "my girl literally just cheated on me, man." He also told officers the car was not his.

Charges And Court Outcome

Police identified the driver as Mudassir Sandhu, 24, from Morden in south-west London. He was charged with dangerous driving and failing to stop. At Guildford Crown Court, the court heard that Sandhu had been speeding along a road in Croydon with a 20 mph limit and had driven the wrong way on the carriageway before being stopped on the M25.

In June, Sandhu was sentenced to 12 months in prison, fined £187 and disqualified from driving for four months.

Police Response And Public Reaction

Officers deployed a stinger device to puncture the vehicle's tyres and later broke the BMW's glass to remove the suspect. It has not been disclosed whether anyone was injured during the stop.

Sir Mark Rowley, head of Scotland Yard, praised the pursuing officer's professionalism, noting the calmness and training required to conduct a pursuit at such high speeds. The footage prompted widespread online attention and renewed discussion about the risks of reckless driving on busy roads.

Why This Matters

High-speed pursuits endanger the public and responding officers. The case highlights the dangers of drug use while driving, the potential consequences of attempting to evade police, and the legal repercussions — including prison time — for extreme dangerous driving.
