‘Woof!’ CNN Data Guru Breaks Down Trump’s Top 5 ‘Biggest Drops’ in Polling

In an exclusive clip, CNN data analyst Harry Enten outlines the five biggest declines in President Trump’s net favorability between his first and second terms, using props and four emphatic “woofs” to underscore the numbers. The largest drops are on the economy (down 42 points to -33%) and inflation (net -50%), followed by jobs (from +9% to -22%), the Iran war (from -9% to -36%), government spending (down 22 points to -34%), and corruption (from -13% to -31%). Enten linked these shifts to inflation, reported second-term earnings, debt tied to a major spending bill, and manufacturing job losses, and he argued the polling trends favor Democrats in November.

President Donald Trump faces steep declines in net favorability on several major issues, CNN chief data analyst Harry Enten argued in an exclusive YouTube clip. Using props and four emphatic “woofs,” Enten walked through the five areas where Trump's net ratings have dropped the most between his first and second terms.

5. Corruption

Trump’s net approval on corruption slipped from -13% at this point in his first term to -31% now, an 18-point decline. Enten suggested the president’s business dealings are a factor, noting reports that Trump has earned more than $2 billion in his second term from crypto and other income. He cited a July CNN poll in which 57% of respondents said it was “bad” that Trump had amassed so much wealth.

4. Government Spending

Approval for Trump on government spending fell from -12% to -34%, a 22-point drop. Enten attributed much of that decline to the impact of the so-called One Big Beautiful Bill, which he said added about $4 trillion to the national debt. To underline the point, Enten held up a sign reading “DOWN = BAD” and quipped about comparisons to sports-team popularity.

3. Iran War

Trump’s net approval on the Iran war moved from -9% to -36%. Enten pointed to polling showing that 75% of Americans think the conflict is not worth it, and 88% say the president has not achieved his objectives. He used a corded phone as a prop, suggesting any ordinary American would likely express skepticism about the war.

2. Jobs

The jobs rating flipped dramatically — from +9% in the first term to -22% now. Enten highlighted manufacturing as a key factor: he said Trump had added about 342,000 manufacturing jobs by this point in his first term, while the current term shows a drop of roughly 50,000 manufacturing jobs.

1. Economy

Enten invoked James Carville’s famous line, “It’s the economy, stupid,” to introduce the largest fall: Trump’s net rating on the economy plunged 42 points, from +9% in the first term to -33% now. Enten attributed the collapse largely to inflation and noted that Trump’s net approval on inflation stands at -50% in CNN’s latest polling. He added that, in his review of historical polling, no previous president had recorded a net approval of negative 50 points or worse on inflation.

What It Means

Enten said these trends improve Democrats’ prospects for November: he estimated better than an 80% chance for Democrats to win the House and roughly a 46% chance to capture the Senate. Throughout the segment Enten used visual gags — from a retro calculator to a Diet Coke — and emphasized the severity of the declines with four sharp "woofs." Jason Cohen contributed to the report.
