Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky urged stronger sanctions to block Russian ballistic missile production and called for more air-defense systems after a strike in Pukhivka killed a three-year-old and his grandparents. He described additional missile attacks on Kyiv and a wave of strikes across several regions, with multiple injuries and at least one other reported death. Zelensky blamed President Vladimir Putin for prolonging the war and appealed for interceptor missiles and systems such as Patriot, SAMP/T and NASAMS to be delivered and deployed inside Ukraine.
Zelensky Urges New Sanctions and Strengthened Air Defenses After Kyiv Strike Kills 3-Year-Old and Grandparents

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Saturday urged tougher international sanctions to halt production of Russian ballistic missiles and called for more air-defense systems after an airstrike in Pukhivka, near Kyiv, killed a three-year-old boy and his grandparents.
In a post on X, Zelensky said the toddler's parents and his 15-year-old brother survived the blaze. He described the attack as a deliberate strike on an ordinary residential building and emphasized the human toll across multiple regions.
Attack Details
Local officials reported that drone strikes hit the family's home in Pukhivka, killing a grandfather, a grandmother and their three-year-old grandson. Four others were hospitalized — the boy's parents, his 15-year-old brother and a neighbor who rushed to help and was wounded in what witnesses described as a double-tap strike. Victims suffered thermal burns and shrapnel wounds.
Zelensky also reported a separate attack involving six ballistic missiles against civilian infrastructure in Kyiv, with at least one fatality reported from those strikes. The wave of attacks affected multiple regions, including Donetsk, Kharkiv, Sumy, Dnipro, Zaporizhzhia, Odesa, Kherson, Mykolaiv, Chernihiv and Poltava.
Appeal For Sanctions And Air-Defense Support
"Only Putin Doesn't Want The War To End," Zelensky wrote, accusing Moscow of clinging to ballistic missiles and drones to prolong the fighting. "More pressure is needed. New sanctions that will prevent the production of these ballistic missiles. And we definitely need more protection for our people."
He called for immediate delivery and in-country deployment of interceptor missiles and air-defense systems — naming Patriot interceptors, SAMP/T, NASAMS, Hawk systems and protective measures for F-16 operations — arguing these systems save lives when they are operational inside Ukraine rather than sitting idle abroad.
The appeal came a day after the U.S. Senate approved, by an 86–11 margin, legislation to penalize countries that buy Russian oil, gas and other exports that help finance President Putin's war. The sanctions package was championed by Sen. Lindsey Graham, who had recently visited Ukraine.
Zelensky thanked nations that have provided new air-defense packages and urged continued leadership and tangible deliveries to protect civilians and infrastructure.
