Summary: A small but vocal fringe on the British Right promotes a racially exclusive notion of Britishness and has coalesced around Rupert Lowe's Restore party. The article documents inflammatory statements from Restore figures, including anti-Semitic imagery shared by campaign director Charlie Downes, and argues that Lowe has not done enough to distance himself from these elements. While supporting tougher immigration and integration rules, the author firmly rejects race-based definitions of citizenship and proposes an inclusive but selective 'conversion' model for British identity.
Rupert Lowe’s Circle: Racist Extremism Threatens Conservative Renewal

Over recent days I have investigated a small but vocal faction on the outer fringes of the British Right whose racially exclusive views risk discrediting the broader cause of conservative renewal the country needs. While I regularly critique the far Left, net-zero activists and other opponents of the Open Society, exposing this group matters because their ideas are morally repugnant and politically corrosive.
What They Believe
These extremists promote a closed, blood-based idea of Britishness: a belief that citizenship and national belonging must be defined by ancestry rather than by shared values, language, customs or legal status. Under this conception, long-established migrants, mixed-heritage families and many religious minorities are denied full inclusion regardless of their contribution, loyalty or cultural integration.
The rhetoric often borrows from historical race laws and racial essentialism. Terms such as 'genocide' are misused to describe demographic change, and slogans like 'millions must go' — used inconsistently to refer to deportations or to other, darker outcomes — create a chilling subtext of ethnic exclusion.
Connection To Restore And Rupert Lowe
While numerically small, this current has clustered around Rupert Lowe's Restore party in recent months. Restore polled ahead of the Conservatives in Greater Manchester's mayoral contest, and that electoral footprint has attracted attention and alarm. Lowe has repeatedly failed to clearly distance himself from inflammatory supporters, and his tolerance of aides and online cheerleaders with extremist views raises legitimate questions about the party's direction.
Example: Charlie Downes, Restore's campaign director, has amplified anti-Semitic tropes and shared imagery implying conspiratorial ties between public figures and Jewish organisations. He has also stated that 'Restore Britain believes that Britain is a people defined by indigenous British ancestry and Christian faith,' a definition that would exclude millions of citizens.
Where The Author Stands
My criticisms are not doctrinaire. I support tougher immigration and integration policies: removing illegal migrants, requiring meaningful integration from legal migrants, and in some cases stripping citizenship from proven criminals or terrorists. These are mainstream positions on the democratic Right and distinct from the racialist worldview I condemn.
Crucially, I reject racial definitions of nationality. I advocate an inclusive-but-selective model of Britishness: an open identity that allows admission by demonstrated commitment (learning English, accepting core civic customs, demonstrating financial independence), with robust, transparent criteria and limits on numbers — not a membership predicated on race or ancestry.
Why This Matters
Allowing racially exclusive rhetoric to enter the mainstream corrodes democratic politics and normalises hatred. Any political party that tolerates, employs or fails to expel those who promote a purely racial conception of citizenship should be shunned by responsible politicians and voters. The debate about immigration and national identity is legitimate; fetishising ancestry and advocating ethnic exclusion is not.
It is time for a clear line: defend civic nationalism, enforce strict but fair integration standards, and refuse to allow racialist extremists to claim the mantle of conservatism.
