The funeral for members of one family killed when an Iskander ballistic missile struck their home in Kryvyi Rih on July 30 was held on Monday as the region continued to be hit by strikes. Officials say at least two adults and four children died, though some remains remain unidentified and the toll could rise. Local residents described the house as flattened and mourned the victims while wider fighting and intensified strikes have driven an increase in civilian casualties. President Zelenskyy has pressed international partners for faster deliveries of Patriot air-defence systems amid rising attacks.

The funeral for members of a single family killed in a Russian airstrike took place in Kryvyi Rih on Monday as fighting and strikes continued across the region.

Strike and Immediate Impact

Ukrainian authorities say an Iskander ballistic missile struck the family home in Kryvyi Rih, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s hometown, on July 30. Officials reported that at least two adults and four children were killed; authorities caution the toll could rise because some remains have not yet been formally identified. On Monday, the coffins of five victims were brought into a small local church as several dozen people gathered to pay their respects.

Voices From The Community

Colleague Oksana Stretovych described the family as "exceptionally good and sincere," saying they "always responded to all kinds of situations and tried to help." She recalled hearing a "powerful explosion" the night of the strike and later learning of the tragedy.

“They were a wonderful, faithful family who worked for the good of Ukraine,” said Taras, the son of one of the victims, adding that the attack deepened his desire for vengeance.

The local priest said his own windows were blown out that night and that the Voronov house had been reduced to flattened earth.

Wider Context

More than four years after Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine, shelling and missile strikes continue nearly daily, and both sides report increased offensive operations. On the same day, regional officials said a separate Russian attack near Kryvyi Rih killed three people, including an 8-year-old, at a service station.

In July the United Nations warned of an "alarming escalatory trend" in civilian deaths driven by the growing use of powerful weapons in densely populated areas.

Claims And Counterclaims

Russian officials reported that Ukrainian strikes killed 11 people on Monday in Russia and in annexed Crimea, saying a drone incident on a Black Sea beach killed seven people, including three children. Governor Veniamin Kondratyev described the incident as a deliberate attack on civilians; Kyiv denies targeting civilian infrastructure and says it is striking military, energy and logistics targets to pressure Moscow.

Diplomacy And Air-Defence Needs

President Zelenskyy recently visited Washington to press U.S. officials and defence companies for faster deliveries of Patriot air-defence systems, which Kyiv says are among the best defenses against ballistic assaults. Kyiv has also sought permission and support to produce domestic systems, but establishing production would take time. Recent conflicts in the Middle East have strained international stocks of interceptors, complicating rapid resupply.

The funeral in Kryvyi Rih underscores the human toll of the wider conflict: communities grieving sudden losses while the front lines and diplomatic efforts continue to evolve.
