SoCal Poker Pro Says He Was Hogtied and Robbed of WSOP Winnings in Las Vegas Airbnb; Investigators Probe Possible Inside Job

Jared Griener, a Huntington Beach poker professional, says a hot streak at the World Series of Poker (WSOP) ended in a terrifying robbery when masked assailants allegedly ambushed him inside his Las Vegas Airbnb and made off with his entire bankroll.
Griener posted a detailed account of the incident on X, saying he returned to his rental at about 8 p.m. Sunday after cashing out his WSOP payouts. He wrote that two men were waiting inside, immediately tackled him, tied him up and stole a backpack containing what he described as "literally all" of his cash.
"Last after busting the closer I collected payouts from the summer and drove back to my Airbnb. When I walked in the front door two men were there waiting, immediately tackled me to the ground and tied me up and took my backpack with my entire roll in it," Griener wrote.
Griener said it took him roughly 15 minutes to wriggle free; he then ran to a neighbor's home and called 911. He reported being physically unharmed but deeply shaken by the ordeal.
According to Griener, the suspects threatened to kill him if he moved and were described by him as two Black men. He also said the intruders appeared to know the Airbnb door code and that neighbor video showed they arrived about 10 minutes before he did. Las Vegas police are investigating.
"It's likely someone was watching me at @wsop and knew that I was on my way home with cash. Las Vegas detectives are currently investigating," Griener posted on X.
Born in Provo, Utah, and now based in Huntington Beach, California, Griener is a regular on the high-stakes live-tournament and cash-game circuit in California and Las Vegas. According to The Hendon Mob database, he has earned $3,348,485 in career live tournament winnings and $1,723,561 in WSOP earnings.
Authorities have not released details confirming the suspect descriptions or the suspected method of targeting. The investigation is ongoing, and any updates will depend on statements from Las Vegas police and potential surveillance or witness evidence.
